Class of 2024 TA

Hi, I'm Ms.Rodriguez! I am the PUPP Art Teacher. Through presentations and activities, I helped the scholars learn more about artists, art-making, art history, and themes such as Race, Education, Identity, and Americanization. I am the Art teacher at Pennsauken High School.

Hello, I'm Nancy! As an alum of the PUPP class of 2018. I'm excited to return for the 2021 PUPP Summer as a branch between the Literature and Art Department. I'm is currently a Rising Senior at Muhlenberg studying Art History, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and Studio Art. I had a great time working with the scholars and providing them with guidance over the summer. The scholars took the themes from the summer and motifs within Americanah to develop their projects. I really appreciate the staff for helping everything run smoothly and the experience I've gained over the summer.

Hello, I'm Emma! I loved being an art TA this summer with PUPP. I'm from St. Louis, MO, and a rising Princeton sophomore interested in majoring in Art History, English, and studio arts. I have a passion for creating art that reflects social issues and incorporating themes of identity into my own art. I really enjoyed working with the scholars to discuss themes of identity in connection to Americanah and seeing all the great art they produced with the critical thinking inspiring it.

Hi! I'm Nicole, one of the Art TAs for PUPP this summer. I'm a rising senior at Princeton, studying in the English department. On top of art, my passions include music, dance, literature, and collecting crystals! I've always been interested in art from a young age-- both studying its history and practicing many forms of it myself! I've created portfolios for sculpture, ceramics, and drawing over the years, but I also really enjoy painting, digital art, and jewelry-making as well.

I joined the Art team this year through my internship at the Princeton University Art Museum. As the summer progresses, I'm increasingly grateful for the opportunity to work with our amazing faculty and scholars at PUPP. It's been an honor to observe our scholars create artwork related to their identities, their cultures, and their personal experiences throughout the program!

I'm Dr. K, and I'm going into my 18th year with PUPP! It's an extraordinary privilege to lead PUPP and help create important opporutnities for our scholars to develop and grow academically, personally, and artistically, as they prepare for college and beyond. I earned my BA in Political Science at Johns Hopkins University, where I minored in Environmental Studies. I hold a masters in Secondary Education and Ph.D. in Education, Culture and Society from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education. In addition to PUPP, I've taught courses in Teacher Preparation and Anthropology at Princeton, and I serve as a faculty advisor to the University's Service Focus program, and to Princeton's Men's and Women's Varsity Swimming and Diving teams.

"I enjoyed how students became more comfortable with their creativity and with thinking outside the box. Anyone can be an artist, and think critically about the world around them while having fun."

"My favorite part of art class was listening to students think critically about the themes in the books and how they would use it in their projects. Themes such as Justice, Gentrification, and Equality were interesting to discuss. Its important to realize that the scholars have a voice and instead of overlooking their experiences and knowledge we tried to make the course student centered and actively listen to their point of views and wisdom.

One of my biggest views in life is that art is for everyone, and I got to see it come to life with our scholars this summer. They made increasingly interesting and visually complicated works throughout the program, and really showed me the true meaning of my own viewpoint. Art is for everyone, but everyone in PUPP used their art to show their best selves! <3

"Art is a central component of PUPP and each year, art class gives scholars important opportunities to expand their creativity, skills and imagination - and to learn about artists, traditions and styles. Congratulations to our scholars, teaching team and TAs for their amazing work this summer!"
